Blue Sky~ v.4
There was no sunrise to be seen nor was there a witness to the sunset. In the sky all you saw was either black or white, the day or night. The facade of flora and fauna flourished deeply in the region with shades of ebony green and Earth’s brown lands resembled hands of broken dry skin. Sea birds would fly far over the ocean- a vast teal eternity as far as the eye could see. Mother Nature knew her role on Earth and the sky had no part.
The Earth was a young infant of the stellar skies. He belong to the Universe and was third in line to the order of the king. The Earth was then at its purest when rivers ran as translucent veins over glistening rocks. The constant shaking of the Earth’s plates became crucial in the Earth’s evolution. He continued to grow as a young boy in spurting adolescence. Everything was still and silent until havoc these changes started to occur. With everything changing rapidly, Mother Nature had her hands full.
Before the days she was neglected, Mother Nature was a being who constantly brought to life intricate and lively forms from seeds of others as they grow high from out the ground. She was not often seen, though often she was felt. You could catch the autumn leaves crumple without a trace of animals lurking or fogging back and forth. At times, she would shed a scent- an earthly aroma, the grace of a rose, a dash of the ocean as it would spread over the land. She was the Mother and she was majestic and grand.
Chaotic events frequently changed the harmony of the land, however. As did that morning just south of the equator in the eastern hemisphere of south Asia. During another tectonic fringe, the Earth killed thousands of Mother's creatures. She couldn’t help deter the monstrosity that had developed before her. She was susceptible to the Earth’s evolution as much as anyone and found it more difficult to maintain her poise under such extreme measures. Quakes and hurricanes roamed the Earth like pirates taking all in their fringed path. This time she had little control and could only bare witness to their havoc.
This raids lasted for several thousands of years. It all ended the day the final storm had no where else to go. A grayness covered the sky in the tropics as a horde of clouds began diluting running tears. It was the cry of a mighty Storm that had lost its way from the sea. Wherever the Storm broke, astronomical flashes of light and thunderous drums shook the habitat below as they ran like insects scattering away from lifted boulders. In this tropical society, a council of Palmettos would constantly wave for the intruder to go home.
“You are not welcome here!” they chanted. The Storm, a scavenger of the land saw survival as his only venture for his memories of drifts between landmasses and great rivers of lorn in hopes of finding his way home became a great toll. The Storm out lived six days and into seventh morning… its tears finally stopped and the Storm released its carnage hold on the land. In the shambles of limbs of bark, torn leaves, and scattered trees something strange had formed. It was a lake and his name was Cielo.
Cielo was quite some water. He was very still. Not even the fish inside him made a sound. Cielo showed no ripples. He showed nothing of the sort as the leaves that fell from the trees or the animals that dove into him. He had no splash to show or dazzle. Cielo had never spoken. He was the one tranquility on Earth that showed no movement; for not even the quakes and changing of platonic plates altered that. This lasted for many hundreds of years until someone took notice.
Far above the sky in the halls of the celestial royalty, a maiden with milky skin lay sleeping like a basin over black velvet sheets laced with flickering diamonds. Her name was Luna and she had much to adore. Fair Luna dressed in a shimmering silver gown that glimmered in a mystical glow that everyone seemed to love. The tides would pay tribute to her magnetic energy as would the Earth spin in her direction. It was her duty to look over him with her brother, the tyrant known as Sol. She has done so since the day the Earth was born. They took turns looking after him; one by day and the other by night. Never questioning the cosmos, Luna accepted her fate and has since lit her way to the Earth every single night.
“I have watched you since I was a boy. You have always had this most beautiful glow.” Cielo looked over the night sky and spoke to the fair Luna. She turned her head and a brilliant light shun directly toward him. The whole world witnessed an utter darkness at this very moment- all but Cielo.
“…And I have watched you since your birth. You were born from a single raindrop left behind from a thunderous storm.” She responded.
Ripples changed the resonance inside Cielo. Distraught he spoke again. “I was born from such chaos?”
“Yes,” she replied. “But you are anything but. Never have I seen a Lake so tame and free from any disturbance. You have a presence about you that is all too inviting. Your sapphire blue is pure and uplifting and only through you I have seen my reflection. I cherish those things about you.”
For a moment a complete silence overcame the land. The Wind broke its readily stride and the Mountain stood tall and still. Nothing before them made a sound.
“Don’t you see? It is not me who is beautiful- it is you.” Cielo resided. “You are the reason I am so still. The night would not feel as warm if it wasn’t for you and your most radiant glow.” The sky momentarily shifts into a crimson blaze as Luna’s pitted cheeks turn cherry for a moment.
“I am speechless…” She stuttered. “I have never heard such precious words spoken of me. Not the Wind nor Mountains have done your words just. I am as flattered as can be.”
“Please don’t blush- I’ve never seen this side of you. You have marooned me and the creatures around. We are painted in your radiance.” Cielo hesitated for a second and his body trembled,
“I want to be with you.” Rocks tremble like tears of rage down the Mountain’s side. The Wind whistled disharmoniously in discontent.
“Cielo, we know that such things can never be..” She looked down at him with her light subdued. “We must not defy the rules of Mother Nature for no one knows for certain what would happen if we do. She is a woman whom you should not reckon with for things have been this way for an infinite number of years. I am daughter to the Universe and sister to Sol. You are but a lake. The son of a Storm and a distant relative to the Ocean.”
“If I had it in me to become a Lake from a single raindrop, just imagine what a storm I could be. I will break my silence on Earth as I strive for your magnificent glow.” he replied.
What the world would witness next was a story of unbelief as needle stick insects by Cielo’s bay began to drown in his growing presence. Frogs would deter from crossing lily pads as the lilies spread quickly away. Cielo was determined to leave his cradled home. He remembered stories the Palmettos would tell in the late spring about his father; a great Thunderstorm from a lineage of whom faced a tragic end some time ago. Cielo had been in peace on Earth his entire existance and it was time for him to create noise. Yet before he took his first steps, there was already a guard standing loosely in his presence. Before him hovered the Wind and it screeched loudly in his ear.
“Halt you prissy thing!” screamed the Wind.
“I must pass.” Speaks Cielo. “Let me be!” The shrubs and nearby trees began to rumble. They started laughing at Cielo as the Wind taunts his way.
“Silly water, I’ve made hills of snow in the winter. I’ve made trees lose their leaves in the fall. I’ve made mice of redwood and canons from hail. Choose wisely young Cielo or meet your maker.”
Cielo’s body slowly disintegrated in the presence of the the mighty Wind- his rear expanding mist by the moment. The bushes no longer giggled. In the presence of the Wind, Cielo grew thin. A great fog covered the land. Its form like rope choked and blinded the Wind. His piercing screem turned to panic as he changed erratically in no direction. The Wind could not fight what he couldn't see so the mist, thick like snow left the Wind no chance to gain momentum.
A loud whistle was heard as other breeze were on it’s way. The bell rang and the Wind haulted and positioned himself back to work. He carried the current as he was the bringer of change. Wind was but another worker. He listened to Mother as all of Earth's creatures did. She was employed by the Universe and so she made the rules.
“Move it!” spoke the Breeze. “We must not deter!”
The Wind stopped his motion- looked away towards the Breeze and followed him through. The land began to shed the silver mist that Cielo brought upon it as he levitated far above the horizon. He hovered over the earth in the form of clouds with shades of pigeon grey that expanded beyond eagle sight. No diamonds in sky could be seen through the blanket that covered the earth on its way to Luna ready to unravel.
Cielo followed through six lumps of rugged terrain and at the base of the seventh Mountain, weak as drizzle, he knocked at the giant’s door. The entrance revealed a arduous road towards the top of the Mountain. He was weak and he was dying, yet he carried forth nonetheless. Cielo’s dark path up the Mountain was only lit in part by Luna's grace as she witnessed his every stride and tumble. If it wasn’t for thoughts of Luna, Cielo might have not made his way. He was all but dead at the tip of the Mountain top but kept breathing- keeping up his spark.
All hope was lost when Cielo, weak and frail from miles of climbing, he witnessed a familiar crimson glow as tears fell from his eyes and his heart became fueled with courage. Like Zeus in a Hades prison, Cielo struck the bolt that set him free from his struggling journey. He lied lifeless in the sky with a heart barely beating as Luna, never having lost sight of him, comes to his presence.
“I was afraid to lose you. Yet was so eager to see you by my side.” Spoke Luna.
“It was your radiant glow that gave me the final will to move on…” Cielo replied with a broken gasp of air. “All I saw was a future with you. He gently splashed his arm toward Luna’s face and continued. “I find your glow much more alluring up close. You are truly unlike anything else I’ve seen on Earth.”
“A splash of moisture for my pale skin? I never thought it would feel so good. I’ve never known thirst until now.” She looked in his eyes. “I could see my reflection. Why you choose to love a woman with a pitted face is beyond me. I am grey and ashy and am therefore too horrid to view in the day and so am destined to wonder alone by night. My glow is but a mere illusion deriving from the shine off my glimmering dress.”
“Luna! Don’t speak such terrible words.” Cielo reacted, “ I am here now. I am here to be with you. That’s all that matters this day…” Luna gazed at Cielo, perplexed by his choice of words.
“Day? Oh my... Cielo! You must leave me at once. My nightly shift is over and my brother shall be here soon. His mere presence causes detrimental burn. “ She turned over her velvet sheets and disappeared into the creeping dawn.
Shortly following her exit, the blackness in the sky faded into a brilliant white light. A massive sun known only as Sol rose above and over the Mountain tops with a single leap and sat down to watch over Earth on his heavenly throne. He was dressed in a golden fleece adorned in jewerly that sparkled blind whomever saw it. He sat down ready to start the day.
Upon sitting, Sol immediately noticed the presence of a large body of water hovering in the sky before him. He stood in flames spread like wildfire and demanded an explanation.
"Today I come to shed light on little Earth and what's this? A body of water in the sky. What mockery is this?" He looked around and finds no one laughing.
"I mean you no harm." Cielo told the mighty Sol.
"Are you not afraid of me? In my presence you will vanish into the air with volcanic spit and furious flares." Sol referred to Cielo.
"My only fear stems from losing sight of the radiant glow that comes from Luna's eyes." Cielo pronounced to Sol. The flaming tyrant loosened his gathered eyebrows and stern stance and sat graciously back down on his throne.
"You mean to tell me you've met my sister?" Sol chuckled. "A mere body of water doesn't have what it takes to win her heart."
"I am no body of water!" Cielo explained to Sol. "I am eye of the storm. I come from the fracture of chaos that broke my silent curse when I lifted myself from Earth and battled through the likes of the Wind and Mountain to get to Luna. Even now- I stand before you in my entirety as proof that I am more than just a body of water. My name is Cielo and I am here to stay..."
At that very moment, Mother Nature intervened. She rose unto the sky with the help of the Wind and Mountains and sat above the two entities as they fought for the right to claim the sky.
"Sol! What is this? A giant lake in the sky? Cielo, what would drive you to defy my rules and laws of the land?" Mother said. Cielo's body began to vibrate. Mother Nature's voice penetrated through him causing the ripples inside to grow. The echo itself was heard many miles thereafter. All of Earth's creatures stood gazing at the sky above them waiting to see what would happen next. Mother sat patiently waiting for a good explanation.
"I want to live in the heavens so I may be closer to Luna. My drive comes from those who believe in miracles and in true love." Mother sat listening to Cielo about his devotion to Luna. She listened for seven days until she heard enough.
“It appears to me that your words are sincere and honest. Your admiration for Luna has brought you here and that same devotion will keep you here aswell. You shall accompany Sol every morning as he sheds light over Earth, you shall spread your arms over him as you help cradle Earth to sleep. At the end of the day, when the night comes forth and Luna continues where Sol leaves off, you will have the opportunity to be embrace her once more. I want to you to do this for the rest of time.” Mother proposed.
"I shall accept my fate as the bearer of the blue sky." Cielo's fear turned to joy as he ecstatically declared his new title. Mother Nature looked towards Sol.
"Let us now leave and give Cielo and Luna a night to call their own." She turned over to Cielo one more time before departing. "You shall begin tomorrow..."
The Wind rose again and lifted Mother back to Earth where she continues to work to this day. Sol stood still looking with piercing flames arcing over him. He is stern, yet collected when he told Cielo
“…goodnight. Take care of dear sis." He told him.
"I promise. Every single night for the rest of time." Cielo replied.
That night Luna returned to duty as Sol’s lingering trace illuminating the waning horizon. She had heard talk of a body of water that defied the rules of Mother Nature and became an eternal slave for doing so. As she began her shift that night, her eyes revealed the last bit of moisture she had got from Cielo as it trickled down her cheek.
After lifting her black velvet sheets over the Earth she noticed a mirage of a small lake in the emptiness of the Universe. Upon getting closer she knew what she was far greater than anything she was expecting; she saw Cielo... waiting.
"Your alive!" She said. "I thought the worst. I was told to stay out of the sky for an indefinite time and all I could do was cry your splash away. I had hoped you survived the confrontation with Sol and Mother Nature. No one ever has before."
Cielo smiled at the enduring Luna. "No more words my Luna. We have all eternity to speak, but only the night time to embrace one another. Whomever I am, whatever I am- I am because of you..." Luna cuddled next to Cielo in the sky as he spread sapphire arms over her.
"Goodnight, my dear blue sky..." she tells him.
"Goodnight." he replies.
"I can't wait to spend all of eternity here with you."
